Early Years Learning

In the early years at Whitford Catholic Primary School we nurture a child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development by providing a quality, child-focused program guided by the Early Years Learning Framework.

Young children learn best by doing - when they are actively involved in their environment and can build knowledge based on their experiences.

At Whitford Catholic Primary School our early learning areas promote hands-on play experiences that allow our children to grow to their full potential.

We believe that play provides children with opportunities to develop physical competence and enjoyment of the outdoors, understand and make sense of their world, interact with others, express and control emotions, develop their problem-solving abilities and gives them opportunities to practise emerging skills.

Research also shows strong links between play and memory, self-regulation, oral language ability, social skills and success in school.
(Copple and Bredekamp 2009;Jones and Reynolds 1992).

By following the above approach, we ensure that our students are actively engaged in a balanced curriculum, whilst at the same time celebrating the journey of learning!
